Storyline
The Adult in the Room takes place during a time of great division in America. The play portrays Nancy Pelosi as she rises above adversity to become the first woman to be elected as the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. The audience sees some very significant moments that impacted her career, her family and friends who supported her along the way and also the obstacles she encountered.
While this production does tell a version of history, it provides a much more detailed account of leadership. The show looks at the importance of balancing the needs of others (the country) and your own personal life. What happens when you have convictions but may need to give up something or two to meet the expectations of others? What type of sacrifices are needed to support our country? Who is considered the adult in the room when everyone is under fire?
